Compassion Santa Cruz

CompassionSC has come from the heart of a community of people who desire to see the collective church in Santa Cruz County become a compelling force of compassionate love in action among the poor and disadvantaged. Although CompassionSC was formally started on July 1st of 2008, over the last year a number of churches and individuals have dreamed and prayed together how to live out the vision of CompassionSC. So, in one sense the work of CompassionSC has been going on for some time in the hearts of people in SC and in the church for years. We are in the process of sharing the vision of CompassionSC, networking with others in the community, developing infrastructure, and raising financial support for basic staffing.

High St. Community Church and Faith Community Church have supported CompassionSC from the beginning. Starting in 2007, these two churches, along with others, have united their efforts and shared their resources to serve the poor and disadvantaged in SC County. Other churches, organizations, and individuals are coming forward to join the network and we are excited about these future partnerships. If you or your church would like to partner with us please let us know.

The staff team is comprised of Derek Dominguez and Dorothy Stowe. Derek was previously on staff fulltime at High St. Community Church as the pastor to college students and young adults. Dorothy is presently the administrative assistant for HSCC. The board of High St. Community Church is functioning as a board for financial accountability while CSC develops its own structure. There is also an advisory board which helps to oversee and discern CSC’s formation in these early stages. Once CSC acquires its own non-profit status, the advisory board will become the official board for CSC. At this time CompassionSC’s physical office is at High St. Community Church.
