On the night Jesus was betrayed and arrested, in the midst of intense conflict and abandonment, Jesus reveals His heart and power…

Check out "The Betrayal" Sermon from our I Speak Jesus series

  • Jesus speaks His name, “I AM” and His words knock over hundreds of Roman soldiers (see John 18:3-5 and this definition of band of soldiers)

  • Jesus touches and heals the ear of a wounded enemy (Luke 22:50-51) on the other side of the battlelines.

Jesus sees things so differently than us.

He’s engaged where we shut down.

He’s healing where we’d draw a sword.

He’s revealing His power and then letting Himself be arrested.

Not even His disciples really understood who He was and what He was about until after these moments.

And it’s only through His Holy Spirit that we begin to truly see Him as He is. Then and now.

“We have a great High Priest who has entered heaven, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to what we believe…[He] understands our weaknesses, for he faced all of the same testings we do, yet he did not sin. So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most.” (Heb 4:14-16)

His trials and endurance in the days before His cross can become profound revelations of who He really is.

It’s by His wounds we’re healed. It’s by His blood we’re washed clean again.

Let’s take some time to receive the deep revelation of what God was about in Jesus’ suffering, and death…so that we too might share in the power of His resurrected life, now and in the years to come (Phil 3:10).

Visit this Sunday as we consider the profound moments of Jesus’ Triumphal Entry, the temple cleansing, and His trials.

Stop by House of Prayer on Tuesday and prayerfully engage in Journeying with Jesus to the Cross (adapted for our church from the Stations of the Cross) in our Sanctuary, available from 9am-4pm.

Join our Good Friday service at 5pm as we worship Jesus, read through the crucifixion accounts together, and meditate on the One who gave everything to have us as His own. (Journeying with Jesus to the Cross is available from 3-5pm Friday, too).

Celebrate and invite friends and family on Easter Sunday at 9:30am to bask in the wonder of Jesus’ resurrection life that is available for us now, and have some fun at the Easter Egg Hunt and reception at 11am.

This is going to be an amazing holy week! May we see Jesus by the power of the Holy Spirit so we can speak Jesus to the broken and needy places around us.

Expectant,

Pastor Dave
